PeeWee – 8-10 year old male Yorkshire Terrier

PeeWee weighs in at 3.8 kg and is a neutered male, aged around 8-10 years old. This is the story of a little Yorkshire Terrier who was brought to us in a terrible condition. His coat was matted so much that he could hardly walk and as a result he had infected skin where puss-filled abscesses grew. These have now been removed under anesthetic, along with his teeth being cleaned and some removed.

PeeWee is a lovely, older boy with all the usual characteristics of an old Terrier which is one of the reasons we are now looking to find him a new home. He is being fostered by a member of staff who has a female Jack Russell and an old cat, but PeeWee chases and frightens the cat, therefore the fosterer cannot keep PeeWee long term, as originally hoped. PeeWee shares an office with five other dogs ranging from a shy female Chihuahua to a large boisterous male Bulldog. He tends not to want any interactions from other dogs but is relaxed with them sharing his space.

Sadly, PeeWee does come with some medical complaints, which will not be covered by insurance. He is not on any medication for this and we do not know how long this level of health can be maintained. At times PeeWee is your typical big dog trapped in a little dog’s body and he doesn’t like to be messed with, unless he knows and trusts you. When he first arrived, PeeWee was quite well known for throwing his toys out of the pram when ever veterinary checks or formal handling was required. Now, with anyone he knows, he will allow anything. He pays no attention to strangers and visitors to the office or the home and he will never go out of his way to show any aggression; it is simply that he doesn’t like being picked up by strangers.

PeeWee will be absolutely fine with older children (12 years +) who are patient and gentle with him as in the foster home. He will be dearly missed by his foster carer and all the office staff, as once you have a bond with PeeWee he is cuddly and loyal.
