Pickles – 5 year old female Jack Russell Terrier

Pickles is a 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier girl who is a real sweetheart with a sad tale. She came into us in November 2008 from a pound in Swindon where she was picked up from being abandoned. She was an emaciated bag of bones and found to have a stick lodged in her mouth, making her unable to eat. This had been in her mouth for a long time and had begun to rot so when it was removed it left a hole the size of a 50 pence piece.

Then 8 months later Pickles was put up for adoption and what a different dog she became in that time. She still has the hole which we had hoped would start to close over but this hasn’t happened and probably never will.
When she came in she would choke when eating and became food phobic. A diet of cooked chicken kept her going but she failed to put on any weight. By pure chance a visit to McDonald’s drive through with a group of the children discovered that Pickles loves McDonald’s plain burgers. With approval from the vet she has visited the local drive through 3 times a week and loves her burger and bun.

She has now put on some weight and is a fit, happy, healthy little dog. She may have been a working dog as she is a terror with cats and anything small and furry. She must have a home where there are no visiting cats or other little creatures.

She is great with children but because she is so very tiny she would need a home with children over 10.
Pickles gets on well with calm, gentle dogs but would not suit a home with bouncy, “in your face” type dogs as she does become stressed at this. Pickles is crate trained and loves nothing better that being out and about in the van.

She is an absolute darling and everyone who meets her falls in love with her but unfortunately none of the crew at Friends of the Animals can offer her a home as we need to save space for fosters. When she eventually finds her new loving home, we’ll all be sad to see her go (there will be tears!) but it will be wonderful to see her finally go into a proper forever home which she so deserves.

Pickles has been neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated. Pickles is on foster in South Wales but we re-home across the UK.
