Pongo – 12 year old male Golden Retriever

Pongo is a 12 year old Golden Retriever and yet another casualty of the strict no pets in rented housing rule. His family are devasted to lose him. He came in on Sunday – the day after his 12th Birthday. He has slotted in with the other dogs like a dream – they all think that he is the bees knees! He settled down for bed by my bedroom and slept soundly all night.

Pongo is used to children and is fabulous with other dogs. He has not lived with cats, but is a real gentleman so I would anticipate that he would quickly learn to live with them. He is vaccinated and just castrated, with a clean bill of health and full veterinary records available.

He is house trained, okay in the car, but has only been in the car to go to kennels or the vet, so it’s a new treat to go to nice places in the car.

Pongo is obedient but, like most Goldies, he doesn’t hear too well if he is busy – the right tone or words ( walks/dinner/cheese etc) seem to miraculously switch on his hearing very quickly though! He ignores Mick totally when requested to obey a command, but has been excellent with me – very attentive and eager to please – a real ladies man I guess.

He is very fit and athletic for his age and does pull on a lead – a bit of work or a harness or head collar would quickly change this.
