Prince – 2 year old male Pomeranian

Prince is a 2 year old Pomeranian who came into rescue after being rescued from euthanasia due to being dominant with people.
He has never been physically hurt. The previous owners have gone the opposite way and spoilt him so much that he does not realise what is acceptable and what isn’t. Prince does not like being told what to do and judging by his behaviour, has never been set and guidelines or rules and has been left to do pretty much what he wants.

He has issues with food – we always ensure that he is fed on his own away from other dogs and we are working with him to try and improve these problems.

He does not like doors being shut on him and is full of rage when this is done! This is improving because we use praise and reward tactics here and because he is so food orientated is learning that when he sits and waits he will get a treat. When he has a go, he gets no food and that is not fun!

Prince is good with other dogs but does not understand their body language. It would seem that he has not met other dogs in the past, although now that has changed as he is living in a pack environment and is having to learn manners with other dogs. He is fine out on his walks and enjoys exploring, but is nervous of strangers (due to lack of socialising) and unsure of joggers and bikes. He is a bright dog though and learns quickly and I am sure that this will not take long to sort. He shows no reaction to cats.

Prince cannot be homed with children under any circumstances. I am looking for a very experienced home for him who has worked with dogs with dominance aggression. I will not sugar coat this dog. He is going to be hard work and has been treated like a baby and this act of ‘kindness’ nearly caused his death. I need someone who is very dedicated, will take no nonsense off of him, will treat him kindly, but firmly and most importantly treat him like a dog, not an extension of themselves and like a child. He needs a very special person to help him through his issues, but having assessed him, I know that underneath all that bravado is a very sweet dog! He loves being brushed and wants to please, but is unsure what exactly is expected of him.
This rescue offers full backup for life and he gets adopted on the provision that he gets returned to the rescue if the new owner cannot cope. He will not be in danger of euthanasia again. A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee applies.

Prince is fully vaccinated, castrated and microchipped and has been wormed and defleaed.
