Red is approximately seven to eight years old and is a rough coated lurcher. He came to us as he was no longer wanted and was very timid and quiet on arrival. In his previous home, he lived both indoors and outdoors and had been used to just sleeping on newspaper and concrete, he hadn’t been given a name of his own by his previous owners.
Red has come on amazingly in the month he has been with us but can still be timid around people he doesn’t know. It took around two weeks before he wagged his tail and for him to stop cowering when we went to put his lead on or stroke him, he hasn’t had a brilliant past obviously. He is currently in kennels and we are now greeted by a waggy, happy boy, he has settled and knows he is safe now. He really is a sweet boy who just wants plenty of love, cuddles and a comfy bed and warmth to live out his twilight years. With the cold weather coming, he really needs to be out of kennels and in a warm, loving home.
Red has arthritis in his hips and knees and we are giving him joint supplements to help with this, in the future he may have to have anti-inflamatory medication for his joints, however the rescue will cover costs for this for the rest of his life. The arthritis doesn’t prevent him from walking, he is a sprightly chap when out walking and walks well on the lead. Red travels well, but prefers to sit on the back seat of the car rather than be put in a boot. We put this down to the fact he was brought to us literally shut in a boot so he couldn’t see, he was in the dark and confined and was obviously frightened by the experience.
Red has been fine with all other dogs he has met and could live as an only dog or with another dog or dogs. He has been neutered, had a dental and is vaccinated, flead and wormed and microchipped. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.
