Rio – 2 year old female Lurcher

Rio, a 2 year old Lurcher, has been in foster in the Greyhound Gap kennels house for over a year, no one can understand why she’s had no interest! It’s hard to get photos to do this girl justice as she is the most racy stunning little dog, she is so well put together. She is absolutely beautiful and you will not find a dog in better physical condition or health, she is as strong willed in body as she is in mind but she is also the most biddable, highly trainable and ball obsessed dog in the world. Rio lives to please you, she absolutely adores people and is fabulous and gentle with children. Rios ideal home is with a male companion she loves to play and engage and is fine with some bitches very respectful but does not like other bossy females who attempt to put her in her place. She would love a home willing to invest in training either agility or in particular we feel she would excel at flyball, she can not half move and is one of the quickest dogs I think I have ever met. Seeing her run is like poetry in motion. When left Rio can be a little whiney whilst first settling, it is not separation anxiety she is the worlds nosiest little dog and likes to know what you are doing.

Due to this we crate trained her but she is now fine out of the crate with the company of my others for a few hours period during the day. Rio travels like a dream and is housetrained. The only thing Rio seems resolute to learn is the art of lose lead walking – continued work on this will be needed!. Recall wise if you take a ball on walls you have her full attention, without a ball she will hoon off at high speeds after birds which are her second love alongside balls! Rio is NOT cat friendly. We really would love to see this beautiful lass in her perfect home now, she is wasted here with us at the kennels as we do not have the time to invest in taking her to training classes or flyball type activities. Rio would also fit happily into a very busy pet home that had time for training and long walks and safe off leash running opportunities.

Greyhound Gap
Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in our kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homed throughout the UK subject to a suitable home visit being carried out. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Greyhound Gap, we would ask that in the first instance you could take a few moments to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire if you have not already done so:
