Roxie – 1 1/2 year old female German Shepherd Cross Collie

Roxie is a 1 1/2 year old female German Shepherd cross Collie who had a restricted puppyhood, initially kept crated with her brother, then rehomed and kept in a bedroom and not exercised. Now in a caring family and living with Retriever cross German Shepherd. Her poor socialisation skills prove challenging outside when she ‘sees off’ dogs and in the house with visitors, she hides. Owner now expecting first child.

She needs low dog density outside exercise area. No children in family and respectful visiting children. Settled living with another dog. Muzzled outside as can ‘shep-herd’ and occasionally nips arms: Instincts she is learning to restrain these in competent hands.

She had sad beginnings and only now getting the training she needs.  She has done so well in the last 9 months and now knows basic commands, enjoying the fun of obedience.  She has learnt her place in the pack with her companion dog having to position her so she recognises she isn’t boss. She can be left during the day for short periods without event and is good being street walked. Outside she is threatened by other dogs and muzzled. Even still others know to avoid her, that’s her game and exactly the way she can manage to feel comfortable. She still needs to learn to relax outside and would be better having less dogs around, to be able to develop her confidence in an area denied to her in her formative years.

She is living with another dog and has accepted this and achieved that relaxed status in their relationship. Her current owners have taken her in and offered her so much. They have worked with her intelligence and put in the training. She has come along way and will make further progress, but the bottom line is she is wary of children and they are now expecting their first child. She accepts strangers ever so slowly, building trust which is non-existent on meeting. She gives clear messages and in that way it is easy to work with her and see her progress with each passing month. She is spayed, fully vax’d and chipped. We are so grateful to her caring owners who have turned her around and laid a very good foundation from which she can proceed. Roxie needs an adult home to promote her skill building further. Currently still with his family in Ramsgate Kent. She is a happy soul and apart from walks and visitors, she is enjoying her life and is a truly fantastic dog.
