Ruby – 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Hello, my name is Ruby, I’m a 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I came into the Mayhew after being rescued from a travellers’ site where I had been kept locked up all day. I am presently in a foster home and my foster mum says I am a true Staffie girl, which makes me very proud. Happy, cheerful and very friendly. I am a real busy bee and just love to be out and about or bustling around the house looking for things to play with. I wasn’t housetrained at first but I am now clean and will paw at the floor when I need to go out. I’m very friendly with people and love being stroked and cuddled.

I also love to play games and I can happily amuse myself for a couple of hours with my favourite toys. I am relaxed in the house, although I can have the odd mad dash around. I am quite a smart girl, I have learnt a lot in a short period of time and I now all the basic commands, although sometimes a treat is required for encouragement! Oh, and I’m a very good girl in the car and I can be left alone for a couple of hours without any problem.

As I was never socialised properly with other dogs I can be very snappy with strange dogs. However in my foster home I have been walking in the park with the male Staffie next door and we get on really well. I love going for walks in the park but unfortunately I’ve had to be kept on lead because I have to have a knee operation to fix a torn cruciate ligament. Still, the vet says once I have fully recovered I will be able to run around again. After my operation, I will be restricted to lead walks until I have built up the muscles in my back leg, once I have fully recovered I will need one to two hours of off lead exercise daily where I will need to wear a muzzle and a long line while my new guardians continue to work on my socialisation around other dogs.

I am looking for a home ideally with people who have owned a Staffordshire Bull Terrier before and know the breed. I could live with teenagers but am a bit too boisterous for young children. I will also have to be the only dog in the house and I am not for cats. My new guardians will be taking on a fifteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly and will be expected to take me to training classes. I haven’t had the best start in life but if you are willing to put the work in with me and are looking for a loyal and loving companion, then I am the girl for you. Hope to see you soon, Ruby
