Rudy – 2 year old male Shih-Tzu Cross

Rudy is a two year old Shih-Tzu cross. We do not know what he is crossed with, it’s just that we know he is not a pure breed. He came into our care on New Year’s Eve in a very sorry state. He was taken off his owners for failure to seek veterinary treatment for an ulcer in each eye. We also found his fur was badly matted and he was a little underweight. Despite all this Rudy is the most adorable, charming dog you could wish to meet. He has such a wonderful character and does the best sulking when he doesn’t want you fussing with his eye drops!

Rudy is going to need a home where he is the centre of attention and will not be left for very long. He easily forms attachments and so we do think there will be potential for him to have separation anxiety so the best set up for him would be where he could go to work with you or be at home with someone all day. He is really ever so well behaved and would make a great office companion!

Rudy loves to play, as you can see in his picture, but what he probably loves more than anything else is a cosy, warm lap to sit on. Rudy will be a great addition to anyone’s home. He is so full of character and love and seems qute a happy go lucky chap.

Rudy’s ulcers are healing well but he will need ‘viscous tears’ administering daily for the rest of his life. This is because of his breeding, his eyelids do not lubricate his eyeballs sufficiently because they protrude so much and so they dry out, hence the ulcers at present. Viscous tears come in a gel form from the vet and are inexpensive and would be something a new owner would have to be prepared to pay for and administer. Rudy will also need regular grooming to avoid getting in a matted state again (he has since been professionally groomed).
