Rufus – 8 year old male Rottweiler

Rufus (ref 97d) is a very handsome 8 year old male Rottweiler. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his last owner was in very poor health and eventually had to go into hospital, so there was nobody left to look after him. In spite of having lost his owner and his home, Rufus is very buoyant and has a notably friendly temperament. He especially enjoys being made an enormous fuss of.

He also enjoys playing, though he doesn’t seem to have any experience of playing with toys. He knows at least 3 commands, possibly more, and being a Rottweiler he is a very intelligent dog. Obviously he is a big strong lad, so he will need owners who can give him lots of exercise and take him for frequent walks.

He will also need plenty of opportunities to use his brain, because Rottweilers like to be up and doing things which they find interesting and absorbing.  A bored and neglected Rottweiler with nothing to do is always an unhappy Rottweiler.

Rufus would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 15+, kind, sensible and respectful of dogs.  His new owners would need to have previous experience of owning large-breed dogs, ideally Rottweilers.

Rufus is friendly towards female dogs, but his attitude towards male dogs is slightly unclear at present. He would, like most dogs, be certain to chase after cats and rabbits. Handsome, hunky Rufus is a very likeable and friendly dog who needs a comfortable, loving, active and happy home where he can count on spending the rest of his life in peace, surrounded by people who genuinely care about him.
