Shani (pronounced shah-knee) is a stunningly beautiful 9 year old German Shepherd cross Northern Inuit girl who is in an Oldies Club foster home in London and is now seeking her forever home. Shani adores dogs of all varieties and would be happy to live with them. Shani lived with several cats before coming into rescue, and she also lived with a chinchilla! Shani isn’t terribly interested in children but she is gentle with them.
Shani LOVES her walks. Her favourite thing in life is socialising with other dogs off lead. She gets it just right with all sizes and temperaments – playful and respectful. She’s pretty good on lead too – will occasionally get a bit excited if she can’t say a proper hello to passing dogs, but that’s the only issue. Shani’s favourite pastimes are walks, walks walks! Playing with other dogs in the park. Snoozing on the sofa. Chewing/destroying tennis balls and soft toys. She’s not too keen on being groomed, but is still gentle with it.
Shani is happy in most situations. When at home she mainly sleeps or plays with her toys. She seems to enjoy having a busy household, but mostly she just watches from the sidelines. Shani is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. She had digestive issues and was underweight when she came into rescue. Via tests and biopsies she has been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and needs lifelong medication to keep the condition under control (Tylosin and Prednidale).
She must also have a strict diet – she is doing very well on James Wellbeloved Grain Free Turkey and Veg – with no other foods or treats as these could cause the condition to flare up. She does love most raw veg though and can also have boiled potatoes as treats. She is doing so well now that her weight has increased from 24kg to 36kg – her optimal weight. She had a leaky bladder but this is now completely controlled by Propalin and Incurin. Shani is a committed opportunist and will find whatever is left on the kitchen counter, so you will need to be a tidy kitchen person!
