Spot – 12 year old male Border Collie

Spot is a 12 year old Border Collie who is completely blind. He originally belonged to a man who died leaving the dog with a family who did not want him.

Many rescues recommended that they have Spot put to sleep because no rescue would take on such an old dog, especially because of his disability. They had him booked in for euthanasia but then were told about a rescue who would help him and so he was sent there.

The rescue he ended up in have a huge group of free running dogs and when Spot bumped into one of the other established dogs, some of the other dogs jumped in and poor Spot landed up in the vets having himself stitched up after being mauled.

It was decided that for his own safety he should go into a pen in isolation and when I heard this it was decided he should come over to England to see if we could find him a lovely retirement home.

When Spot arrived he had a huge bald patch on his back where he was shaved to for his war wounds. He will need to have further clipping though as his coat is very matted and this will be done whilst he is being castrated, microchipped and 2nd vaxed on Wednesday (1st April).

Spot can easily live with other dogs. His bad experience has not put him off laying and interacting with other dogs and I think that he will be happy with another dog around. He has shown no reaction to cats. Although he would easily live with children I am looking for a home with older children only as he needs a quieter home in his twilight years.
