Stanley and Rose are a couple of absolutely gorgeous tan and white Wire Haired Podenco cross siblings approximately 20 weeks old. Mum had been a house dog at some point but she was found on the street with her 4 pups when they were very small indeed. Mum and the pups were taken to the pound and, not surprisingly, they were all extremely frightened and sadly, no rescues were willing to take them on because of that. To make matters worse, a dog in the adjacent cage attacked 2 of the puppies through the bars, grabbing their ears and Rose has a piece missing from her right ear as a result. We rescued the whole family and placed them into foster care where they have changed beyond belief. Sometimes all these souls need is to feel safe.
The Podenco is a small sight hound, very much like a greyhound, Lurcher or Whippet in terms of temperament and generally hardy and rugged. Podencos are becoming popular here in the UK. They are active, athletic dogs and jump surprisingly high for their size. They tend to do well at agility and make wonderful pets. Unlike the greyhound, they don’t just hunt by sight, they also hunt by listening and tracking so they are very bright little buttons and make engaging, entertaining companions.
Rose is very affectionate and likes a fuss; she is not particularly timid. Stanley is still nervous but he will accept a fuss and is gaining in confidence every day. Mum was adopted with the most timid of all the puppies and that arrangement is working very well. Rose would be fine without Stanley but because Stanley is still nervous and in view of the extreme trauma of their early life we are looking for a home for both of these babies together. They are a couple of stunning dogs who, with time and patience for Stanley, and we don’t expect it will be too much time either, will make superb companions and fun pets. They get along with other dogs, they are crate trained and virtually house trained, both are good eaters (especially Rose!), not noisy, love their toys and playtime and are just waiting for their time to really shine in a family environment of their own.
FOSTERERS REPORT: These are beautiful little dogs once they know you. Rose is energetic and could make a fantastic agility dog, I think she would enjoy it. She is interested in her surroundings and inquisitive. She loves a play with a pull rope and she also does bring a toy back to you. Stanley is a lap dog, he likes nothing more than to eat and sleep but this could change as he comes out of his shell and he does enjoy a fuss, especially in his crate where he feels comfortable and safe. They are both clean in their crates overnight and during the day will go to the door to be let out. Rose has chewed her bed but Stanley is not a chewer. Neither of them are noisy and they can both be left for a few hours without any problems. Rose is good on her harness and Stanley is just getting used to his now. Both would benefit from training when they are a bit older. No known health issues.
Stanley and Rose are microchipped, vaccinated, up to date with flea and worm treatments and have full passports. They are not neutered because they are not yet old enough but having both of them neutered at the appropriate age is a condition of adoption.
Angel’s Kiss only uses kennels for immediate rescue and emergencies, all dogs advertised for adoption have been fostered, so they can become familiar with the normal sights and sounds in a family and a household. It is with fosterers that these troubled souls learn what it is like to live in a home, sleep on a bed, eat a decent meal and know what it is to be loved. Fostering is the bridge from the old life to the new. Stanley and Rose are in a foster home in Wirral. Angel’s Kiss homes dogs throughout the UK but anybody interested must be willing to travel to meet them at their foster home.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE: If you are interested in adopting Stanley and Rose please get in touch with us through this website. The adoption fee is £175 each and we always require a homecheck. This is done through a national network of rescue volunteers and usually does not take more than a few days to arrange.
