Sweetie – 5-6 year old female Bichon Frise

Little Sweetie, in name and nature, is a 5-6-year old ex-breeding Bichon Frise being fostered in Par, Cornwall. Sweetie is definitely more of a lady’s dog. She tends to be quite fearful of men and will run and hide if foster dad comes into the room. Sometimes she will carefully take a treat from him! She does loves to be picked up and cuddled but only if she’s in the right mood, and only if she trusts you. At other times she likes to sit quietly on her own.

Being an ex-breeding girl Sweetie isn’t used to being on a lead. She is still getting used to all the sights, sounds and experiences that it brings so this will need much work and patience in her new home. Currently, walking is a very stop-start affair and traffic noise scares her. Sweetie is happy around the resident dogs in her foster home. She will play with them and loves to run around the garden with the bigger dogs but also likes her own space. It is possible that she may not need another dog for company, which is very unusual for ex-breeders so further assessment is required.

Sweetie hasn’t met any cats yet in her foster home. There are canaries, which she takes no interest in whatsoever. Given her nervous disposition Sweetie will only be rehomed to an adult-only household or where there are older teens as she finds younger children far too scary to cope with. As long as she is in her crate she is happy to travel quietly in the car without incident. Sweetie sleeps quietly in her crate at night and when she has been left during the day for an hour or so.

Sweetie would do best in a quiet home where her owners work part time or are retired. Gardens will have to be secure for her as she will look for places to escape. We will not rehome her where there are young children as they will scare her. As with a lot of ex-breeders if pushed too much she does shut down so patience is a must. When she trusts you there is lots of tail wagging and excitement so, although it’s early days we are sure that Sweetie will repay your hard work tenfold with love and loyalty.

Sweetie is up to date with her vaccinations, flea and worming treatment, is microchipped and spayed. Potential adopters are expected to meet her in her foster home in Par, Cornwall.

If you are interested in adopting Sweetie please read about our rehoming process and complete a Pre-Adoption form ( link here ) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat.
