Benji - 5 year old male Jack Russell Terrier
Benji (ref no 173) is a 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier who arrived at the shelter in April when his owners moved to no pet accommodation. Benji is a law unto himself but you can’t help liking him. He is bright, active and energetic but doesn’t enjoy being handled much and likes to get to know you first.

He can be very over-protective so isn’t recommended to live with just one person, he needs to respect you. He would be best suited as the only pet in the home and in an adult only household. He is unreliable with dogs on walks, especially large ones. Not good with cats. Naughty Terrier experience recommended!

Reuben is a 6 month old male Border Collie, he arrived 4th August. We’ve had him castrated, microchipped, flead/wormed and 1st vaccination. Reuben has come into RSPCA care because he has an untreated injury to one of his back legs, at first we thought it was either an old break or ligament damage. He was riddled with fleas and quite wormy. He has come from the same household as the 4 Border Collie pups that are in our care.

Reuben stayed in the vets over night and was x-rayed this morning, while under he was castrated. He didn’t seem to be in any pain yesterday as he was weight bearing and not phased at the injury being examined. The vet established he has a dislocated hock that he’s had for some time aswell as a laceration. He has had 2 pins inserted internally which will be permanant. He will have to be confined for 4-6 weeks, doesn’t need cage rest but cannot be taken out for walks on or off lead, he can go outside for toilet visits on lead only.
He’ll be staying in the vets overnight and will go to the vets for a check up on Friday, then we’ll provide more information. Poor boy, we hope he recovers well and is fighting fit soon.
Reuben is a confident chap, he’s really very friendly and happy at all the attention. We don’t think he’s seen a lead before as he hit the ground and cried when he saw it, he was more scared of the lead than his examination!
He’s lived with quite a few other dogs, although we’re not sure about cats. An experienced home with older children would be ideal, perhaps a doggy friend too. He’s not had a good start in life, particularly with a lack of socialisation and interaction with the big wide world but he’s enjoying himself finding out, he’s a cracking dog considering what he’s been through, are you the one to show him what joys are to be had out of life?
Reuben will need to remain in our care for a few weeks but please contact us.

Minnie is an 8 year old female Rottweiler who came into RSPCA because her owner has unfortunately been taken away she was being cared for by her a close friend who signed her over. She is already spayed. We’ve had her micro-chipped, wormed, flead, 1st vaccination and health check, she’s got a bit of entropian which is common in Rottweilers, unfortunately her eyes have been allowed to become infected as can be seen in the photos, she has some tablets and drops for it so should clear in time.

She also needs her teeth cleaning and nails clipping so we’ll get that done in due course Minnie has a lovely nature, she does not have any malice, she’s got a very nice temperament indeed and is completely trustworthy. She has been brought up with children, and is good with other dogs, but she’s not good with cats!

She will need someone who is experienced with the breed or large breeds and will make someone a loyal companion, she can be rehomed with older children. Her world has been turned upside down, she’s been with the same owner for 8 years and then put in kennels, she’ll wonder what she’s done to deserve this. She’ll need a home with a decent size garden to run around in and play, lots of nice walks and a cosy bed to put her paws up!
Minnie was centre of attention today going on a nice walk with a few dog walkers, she was so happy to be around people, her tail didn’t stop wagging! She’s such a friendly soppy thing, she even let me clean the gunk out of her eyes, she’ll be in some discomfort with it but she’s so good. Already she’s touched the heart of the dog walkers. Please give this gorgeous girl a chance!

Coco is an 11 month old female German Shepherd cross Rottweiler which is a famed cross and its the strength on which we rescued her as an emergency and have no regrets as she is fabulous. As a tiny puppy she grew up with 4 children aged toddler upwards to 9 years old. She was fantastic but they didn’t have time for her..likewise the friends that took her on in a first floor flat.

There she was the victim of domestic violence in her second and last home but although it must have been difficult for her to live through; it wasn’t directed at her. She became abandoned in the ‘no-go flat’ with people frightened to go in to feed her as she was a ‘big dog’ a big bowl of food parked under her nose won her over in an instance and she was in the back of the car licking her rescuer.

Coco has just been spayed and is micro-chipped. She needs basic training, she definitely needs big dog experienced people as she can refuse to do what isn’t appealing to her at the moment, its to get in the car. She is also big 26″ to the shoulder and we think she is more or less adult size. She is exceptional with dogs of all ages and sizes at this age her only fault is she propositions to play, by a large paw on their shoulder but will take ‘no’ for an answer..well…she has to being fostered with 9 other dogs!

Coco is LUVVLY! Beautiful eyes to match her face. The German Shepherd is the first impression..but knowing the Rottweiler parent you see it in her stature; paws, head and the look she gives you with her wonderful eyes.

Rosie is a 3 year old beautiful German Shepherd female. She is really affectionate but with lots of anxiety. She is currently undergoing intensive training with foster parents who are winning. She has lived with young children but would be best suited to living with children 10 years+ and as the only pet in the home.

Whoever has her must be prepared to engage in her training programme with foster parents and persist when she joins them at home. So come on all you experienced Shepherd owners!

Buster is a 2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is big and beautiful! He has had a stable background and enjoyed training and fun times. However his life has turned upside down as his owners have split and due to circumstances he is left alone all day with just lunchtime relief then a short walk during the weekdays, longer at weekends.

He copes well and isn’t destructive or noisy, however his energy levels and emotionality is sky high for about 30 mins when his owner arrives home and she knows he can’t cope long term as a young dog. Buster is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is not over weight but a good weight with a shiny brindle coat. He is also fully house-trained.

He has the Staffordshire Bull Terrier leapy up trait especially when excited and needs more expression of his pent up energy than to just be able to command him by words. On meeting him I could see he wanted to run and run. He is good off the lead and mixes with dogs. He has a male Rottweiler friend that he visits and they have a great play.
Buster is FAB. but will take some work to settle his energy levels but thank God he isn’t in kennels, he has always experienced love and is very well socialised. He has a tremendous amount going for him to compete with the hundreds of Staffie seeking good understanding homes.
