Buster - 1-2 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Meet Buster, a 1-2 year old, male Staffordshire Bull terrier Cross. Buster loves being around people and ideally needs owners who are around the majority of the time as he may not like being left alone for long. Buster is a very stressed individual who finds it hard to cope within the kennel environment.

Experienced owners are needed with knowledge or experience of Staffordshire Bull Terriers or similar bull breeds as he is typical of the breed and will need understanding. Although Buster is around 18 months he is still very puppy like and may take time to mature.

Unfortunately Buster cannot live with another dog, he will need further social work and good control off lead as Buster is like a bull in a china shop and some dogs will find him too much. Buster needs all training from scratch so cannot live with young children, teenagers would be considered that can help with this.

Connor - 3 year old male Terrier Cross

Connor is a 3 year old male neutered Terrier cross that came into Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray in July 2007. An aloof individual that is fairly circumspect with his initial interactions, he does become interactive and affectionate once a bond is formed and does have a unique quirky personality.

A typical steadier older Terrier that prefers things done at his pace and would definitely thrive in a calm routine based environment. Connor was referred to the Behaviour Unit in order for us to investigate his status related behaviours, including issues surrounding high value resources.

Connor will need owners that have experience with high status male or female characters and sound knowledge of the maintenance required within the home. Ideally new owners will have owned Terrier types or Corgi types and have an understanding of their typical breed traits and idiosyncrasies. New owners will also have experience with resource possession (toys and food) and be confident in socializing Connor with carefully selected dogs.

Unfortunately Connor will need to be rehomed into an adult only environment with no visiting kids or grandkids. Older teens (15yrs+) could potentially be considered depending on experience. He will need to be rehomed into a quiet household due to his wary nature when meeting new people. This house should have an enclosed secure garden and be in a semi to rural environment.

Due to Connor’s interactions with other dogs, he will need to be rehomed as an only dog and cannot live with cats. Owners should be prepared to listen to advice and follow any ongoing behaviour programmes.

Ozzy - 1 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Ozzy is a 1 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who came to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in June 2007. He is already neutered. He was referred to the Behaviour Unit so we could further investigate his general character and his behaviour around other dogs. He has heart-meltingly good looks, an endearing character and will make a wonderful pet for those willing to work on his training.

Potential owners will need to have previous experience of high status dogs, males or females and adult-only household would be preferable for Ozzy, although a household with mature teens will also be considered depending on their expectations.

Ozzy will need a house with a garden for training purposes within a semi-rural or rural environment to work on his focus. He is a very active dog so owners will need the exercise facilities to match his requirements
Future owners will initially need time to invest in his settling-in period, his routine and in building up a good relationship with him.

Ozzy responds very well to training and potential owners must be willing to follow an ongoing training programme. He could live with a confident female dog who is able to contend with his physicality.

New owners will need to follow an ongoing training programme and be prepared to listen to and take advice from the Behaviour Unit. He will need a level of consistency in his life, but any work put into his routine and training will be rewarded many times over.

Tommy - 1-2 year old male Cross-Breed

Tommy (ref 109d) is a 1-2 year old, male, very smart-looking and enthusiastic tri-colour male cross-breed. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre after he was found unwanted and abandoned. In spite of having been jettisoned by his last owner, Tommy is a very cheerful, positive and upbeat dog who is extremely interested in the world around him and very keen to make friends.

He already knows at least 3 commands and, bearing in mind that he’s still a young dog, he could probably learn quite a few more if his new owner took the time to train him. He would probably see training as an enjoyable game.

He would be suitable for active new owners who would make sure he got plenty of walks, exercise, fun and games in the fresh air. He is a lively young lad who very much wants to be up and doing, so being shut up in a kennel is no fun at all for him. Tommy would fit comfortably into a household where any children were aged 10+, kind to animals and sensible.

He appears to get along fine with other dogs and seems at present to ignore cats rather than wanting to chase them. He absolutely loves to play, both with toys and with people, and thoroughly enjoys a game of tug. Tommy is a wonderfully friendly, bright-eyed and playful boy who will make a lovely family dog and a terrific playmate. His cheerfulness and love of life are completely unstoppable.

Ty - 5 year old male German Shepherd Dog Cross

Ty (ref 89d) is a rather jolly medium-sized 5 year old male German Shepherd Dog cross, possibly with a hint of Spitz in him. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre by an RSPCA Inspector because his last owners had too many dogs and could no longer cope with owning them.

He is a very likeable chap and tremendously friendly towards people. He’s perfectly happy to let even complete strangers make a fuss of him and adores being stroked, groomed and told what a lovely dog he is.
He has a very handsome and rather dense coat, so he will need to be groomed regularly to stop it getting matted.

Being part German Shepherd, he is a highly intelligent dog, but he currently only seems to know one or two commands because his last owners don’t appear to have bothered much with training him or even taking him for walks. However, he is such a clever dog that he should easily pick up commands and will love to learn. His last owners don’t seem to have played with him either, so he will need to be introduced to the idea very gently - though he certainly gives the impression of being a dog who’d be up for fun and games.

Ty would be suitable for a household where any children were aged 10+ and kind to animals. He appears to get along fine with other dogs and seems at present to ignore cats altogether, though that may only be because he’s distracted by the alien environment he’s currently living in. Like most dogs, he would definitely chase rabbits.

Lovely friendly Ty needs an active home where he can count on getting plenty of fresh air and exercise as well as lots of opportunities to use his wonderful brain and learn new commands. Being left all on his own makes him very unhappy and upset, so he needs to live somewhere where there’ll normally be someone to keep him company and make a fuss of him.

Ty really is a superb dog with a lot of love to give to his new owners and a wonderfully distinctive personality too.

Kelly - 2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Kelly is a gorgeous female Staffordshire Bull Terrier aged approximately 2 years old who URGENTLY needs to find a new home within the next few days.

She very nearly had a new home, however, the woman didn’t like the noise she made. She is very sociable with other dogs, calm and well behaved (most of the time!). She would be fine to live with older children.

Can you offer her a place in your home and heart?
