Lion - 9 month old male Saluki cross Collie

Lion (was called Sandy) is a Saluki cross Collie aged approximately 9 months old when he came in but has been renamed because he has a sort of mane from his shoulder, neck and ear hair. He is about 25 inches - he prances elegantly like a Saluki. He is very enthusiastic about life and wants to please you most of all.

He had good manners, on and off the lead and travels well. He needs to be castrated but has been wormed and vaccinated. He is house-trained and eats well. Lion doesn’t get on the furniture like the other dogs, but likes a soft rug and a warm fire! He is a kind and affectionate boy, who should do well in agility, or obedience.

Puppy classes would be a good idea to finish his socialisation and teach him even better manners - he will love it! He is friends with the cat, but can try and get too friendly, at which point our rather experienced cat tells him off. While he’s fine with cats who know dogs, it may not be a good idea to put him with young cats who will run away. Other than that, a very nice dog who will be a wonderful addition to any home!

Chief - 9 month old male Whippet Cross Collie/German Shepherd

The beautiful Chief, he is 9 months old medium sized cross breed and pretty much fully grown, we feel he is a Collie/German Shepherd cross Whippet. He is the other half of Missy (also featured on DogsBlog.com), the pair brought into our pound recently and under order of euthanasia. They had been handed in accused of sheep worrying which considering both were scared of their own shadow we find hard to believe.

ggap_chief.JPG

On landing in our care it was easy to see that neither of these babies at such a young age had ever known a second of kindness. Both had never been shown how to walk on a leash and the minute you so much as looked at them they would drop to the floor urinating in fear. When you tried to walk them out they would crawl on their bellies under cars and just shake with fear at a human touch.

We left them together in kennels for a couple of months whilst their condition and weight built alongside their confidence. They have been taught not to fear but are still wary of men, and now both instead of acting feral on leash walk beautifully and enjoy their walks.

Chief is now in foster with four other dogs 2 male and 2 female and gets on well with them. He has been spotlessly clean and slept downstairs uncrated without any chewing or problems. He is still wary of the male in the house but is quickly learning to trust and strike up a bond.

Chief adores toys and will happily empty the toy box and play with himself or join in with the other dogs games. We feel to continue with confidence Chief would be best suited to a home with another young dog in there already he would totally love to be with a young playful female.

As with all young dogs Chief would need someone around all or most of the time to allow him to continue through his training. He would also benefit from classes to help his confidence building. Chief would make a fabulous agility dog for someone looking for a clever, willing to learn little dog who is fast on the move. Chief is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Missy - 9 month old female Whippet Cross Collie/German Shepherd

Missy is a 9 month old medium sized cross breed at only 22 inches and pretty much fully grown, we feel she is a Collie/German Shepherd cross Whippet is the other half of Chief (also featured on DogsBlog.com), the pair brought into our pound recently and under order of euthanasia. They had been handed in accused of sheep worrying which considering both were scared of their own shadow we find hard to believe.

We left them together in kennels for a couple of months whilst their condition and weight built alongside their confidence. They have been taught not to fear but are still wary of men, and now both instead of acting feral on leash walk beautifully and enjoy their walks.

Missy is now in foster with 7 other dogs and gets on well with them. If anything Missy is guilty of trying a little to hard with the others and they are confused about having a teeny tiny sumbissive dog that rolls on their back licking at their faces over compensating by being too nice.

Missy has also been spotlessly clean but is a little more clingy at the moment than Chief and has formed a fierce bond with myself. So much so that I have spent the last two days ill in bed and Missy has been my constant companion. She has been fine if taken downstairs but has worried not for her but for me. She has spent each night also at the bottom of the bed keeping watch over me. She would though be fine left for short periods of time in the company of other dogs.

Missy is desperate to play with the other dogs and they will happily oblige for short periods although she is equally happy collecting toys and playing with balls which seem to be fast becoming her favourite thing in the world after me!

We feel to continue with confidence Missy would be best suited to a home with another young dog in there already she would totally love to be with a young playful male. As with all young dogs Missy would need someone around all or most of the time to allow her to continue through her training. She would also benefit from classes to help her confidence building.

Missy would make a fabulous agility dog for someone looking for a clever, willing to learn little dog who is fast on the move. Missy is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, KC vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered. She is going to be someones life, she is so loyal.

Bouncer - 10 month old male Border Collie

Bouncer is a 10 month old male Border Collie who was brought to Battersea as a stray, he was micro-chipped and our lost dogs and cats department located an owner but sadly they did not want him back. We have limited history on Bouncer but know he has already had a few homes, he needs experienced owners used to Collies or similar high energy working breeds to understand his needs and cope with breed traits.

battersea_bouncer.jpg

Intelligent and trainable youngster who would enjoy and excel in doggy sports like agility, flyball or obedience, he is eager to learn and is a busy boy needing things to do. Bouncer needs most training from scratch, also it is unknown if he is house trained. Ideally he needs to live in a more rural location where he will have plenty of open space.

Bouncer is a loving, responsive and manipulitive boy, he is typical of the breed and loves to chase moving objects so owners will need to work hard on control and recall outside. Bouncer could live with other dogs, he enjoys winding them up if he can and may annoy weaker or elderly dogs.

Once settled and if kept mentally & physically stimulated Bouncer could be left for short periods, he gets bored quickly and is liable to find his own amusements! Ideally we are looking for an all adult household as Bouncer needs a calm approach, teenagers would be considered if experienced with dogs.

In Collie loving hands Bouncer will be a fantastic addition, If you feel you can offer him a new home please contact the rehoming team at Old Windsor on 01784 494443, apply online or email us on bow.rehomers@dogshome.org.

Bobby - 6-7 month old male Smooth Collie cross German Shepherd

Bobby is a 6-7 month old male Smooth Collie cross German Shepherd who was brought to Battersea as a stray, he is only a youngster but already fairly tall so will need a large home and garden to accomadate him. (Will probably be normal German Shepherd size when fully grown).

batterse_bobby.jpg

Bobby has a fantastic nature and will make you laugh everyday with his clown like antics, a sense of humour is needed and most definately not for the house proud owner! Ideally Bobby is looking for experienced owners who have owned large boisterous dogs before or similar breeds to understand his needs.

Bobby is a bit of a charmer and thinks his cute looks will get him anything he wants, new owners will need patience and a consistent approach to his training. Has been tested with cats and unfortunately cannot live with cats, he will chase and is too much! Bobby loves other dogs but can be boisterous and rough in his play at times, he can also get frustrated when on lead.

He would benefit from having a circle of doggy pals that he can go out with regularly to burn off some of his energy, Bobby could possibly live with an active older adult female that can cope with him. Due to his boisterous nature Bobby cannot live with young children as he is liable to knock people over if they are small or frail, confident teenagers would be considered that can help with the training needed.

Bobby is only a puppy and gets bored easily, he will also bond quickly to his owners so cannot be left alone for long periods. Bobby is now learning to walk well on a lead using a head-collar, he is well behaved on this and easier to control so we advise new owners continue with the use of this. Once fully grown Bobby would excell in doggy sports like flyball, agility or similar activities as he is so lively and enjoys running around.

Bobby is a great youngster with so much potential, if you feel you can offer him a home please contact the rehoming team at Brands Hatch on 01474 875106.

Speedy - 2 year old male Lurcher

Speedy is a young Lurcher aged around 2 years old. He is a very fine-boned dog and is most probably a Greyhound cross Whippet. As far as we know, Speedy has always lived in the same home where he was a serial escapologist! The dog warden was forever taking him back to his home when he had got loose, but this final time she decided to take him to the pound instead.

grwe_speedy.JPG

His owner knew he was there but chose not to come and collect him as, obviously, he would have had to have paid a fine to have Speedy back. Speedy has now ‘done his time’ there and is available for re-homing, having been neutered and vaccinated of course.

The dog warden tells us that in Speedy’s previous  home he lived with children and was an indoor dog who lived as part of a family. Speedy is a lovely boy who is desperate for affection and attention, but has had little training or time spent on him so he can be a little on the ‘wild’ side - in the nicest possible sense!

Speedy would simply love to go to training or agility classes and will relish the time and effort which needs to be spent on him! Ths is one bright little boy who will make the right owner a fabulous companion.

Sandy - 12-18 month old male Saluki cross Lurcher

Who is going to make Sandy’s life change for the better? Sandy is a 12 - 18 month old Saluki cross Lurcher who came to us from Ireland where he had been found wandering as a stray. After a six-month stay in a general rescue, GRWE were asked to help as there was no realistic prospect of him finding a home in Ireland. And so he made the crossing to us.

grwe_sandy4.JPG

(Image courtesy of Western Daily Press)

We recently removed Sandy from the re-homing section as we felt that his injured leg needed some more investigation. He has had x-rays on his leg and he was referred to a specialist orthopaedic veterinary surgeon for some more investigations as it seemed likely that Sandy might need to have an operation on his leg. After a thorough investigation the vet is now satisfied that this is not necessary.

grwe_sandy.jpg

Sandy has put on a little weight, his coat has improved and he has a jaunty spring in his step too. He is very happy in his foster home where he spends his days playing, playing and playing some more!! We are delighted he is now ready for re-homing. Sandy needs some canine friends to keep him occupied and has tested friendly with cats.

He is happy to be left for periods as long as he has the company of other dogs. Sandys’ hatred of cars is a little improved, but he still gets travel sick and needs bags of reassurance whilst in the car. This is something which will need to be worked on and we will of course help Sandys’ new owner with plenty of help and advice. Sandy is a super dog who will make a great pet for a lucky Saluki lover!

Molly

Molly is a 3 year old medium sized female cross-breed. She is a very sweet girl. She is a vocal young lady when in the kennel but once out and about she is a joy to walk and she loves her cuddles. Molly has started to do a bit of agility for fun and she loves it. Molly can be wary of some dogs and strangers.

dogstrust_molly.JPG

Molly was returned to Dogs Trust as she was worried by the owner’s grand-children. She does worry about some situations but has been a lovely girl while in our kennels she ideally is looking for a quieter home environment with older children, 14 years and over would suit her better as she does love to play.

She is good with some dogs but would be better as the only dog in the home and she isn’t too keen on cats. If you have time and patience to help Molly build her confidence then please give us a call.

For further details about Molly, please contact the Dogs Trust Rehoming centre, Merseyside by telephoning 0151 480 0660.
