We believe that gorgeous Ted is an Akita Mastiff cross who is about six years old. He has a teddy bear shaped head and a plush coat that someone should enjoy grooming and he’s a pleasure to be around. He came into us in July, through no fault of his own, in relatively good condition and he has no known health problems. This loving and active dog enjoys a good run about and playing with his cuddly toys. His favourite is a cuddly gorilla and he’ll want to take that onto his new home. Ted – or Teddy as we sometimes call him can on occasion be a bit fussy about his friends but he is usually very friendly with everyone he meets. He is always ready for an adventure and a chance to get out and about. Due to his energy and size, if his new home has children, we’d prefer them to be older teenagers.
From our observations, Ted gets on fine with most dogs but being big and exuberant, a meet and greet with any potential fellow canines living in his new home, would be needed here at the centre for us to make an assessment. A home with another dog is a possibility but we would prefer a tolerant or submissive yet robust dog as his canine companion.
Ted will need a minimum of two lots of forty minute walks a day to run off his energy and keep stimulated. He’s an unfussy eater who likes his titbits so he would respond well to treat based training. As with all dogs trained with treats, this should come out of their daily food allowance to stop them becoming overweight. Ted would be ideally suited to a home with some large breed experience. He would be okay to be left on his own for shortish spells such as three to four hours but we would always encourage as much human interaction and company as possible for any animals adopted. Ted is a delightful dog who is full of energy, intelligence and a lot of love to give.
