Teddy – 5 year old male German Shepherd Cross

Teddy (ref 88d) is a very good-natured and well-behaved male German Shepherd Dog cross aged approximately 5 years old.  He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre by an RSPCA Inspector along with several other dogs because their owner was no longer able to cope with dog ownership.

He is a very happy and confident dog with lots of personality and enjoys being in the company of people.  He walks well on the lead, is obedient and is also very quick on the uptake when you try to get him to understand something.  He knows at least 5 commands and would probably excel at anything to do with training, since he is a very alert and intelligent dog who would enjoy using his brain.

Teddy loves being in the thick of what’s going on and adores being stroked and made a fuss of, so being left all on his own is a thing that would make him very anxious and upset. He needs to live in a household where there is always somebody around to keep him company.

He would be suitable for a home where any children were aged 10+ and kind to animals. His best friends in the past have been dogs rather than people, so he doesn’t yet know how to play with people or toys, but being a very clever dog he will probably pick up the idea swiftly.

He gets on well with female dogs and seems to be comfortable with submissive male dogs too.  He currently appears to ignore cats and even to be slightly timid in their presence, perhaps because he has never encountered any before.  He would definitely chase rabbits, however.

Teddy is a real ‘gent’  -  an absolutely cracking, willing and well-mannered pocket-sized German Shepherd whose company is a real pleasure.  He will need plenty of exercise, fun, games and opportunities to use his brain  -  but if you can offer him the active, loving home he needs, he certainly won’t disappoint you.  Teddy is a real star.
