Tess – 14 month old female Cross-Breed
Tess is a beautiful if quirky looking genuine cross breed, with a slight hint of German Shepherd. She has the most wonderful coat with all different shades that complement her funny short tail! She has endless amounts of energy and would be a brilliant dog for agility or a couple that enjoys trekking and long country walks.
She is an extremely clever dog that just needs some training and direction to enable her to reach her true potential. She’s not a big fan of toys and much prefers searching, sniffing, exploring and walking, basically using her brain. She is certainly not the kind of dog that would be happy with a quick walk in the park! Tess loves to get muddy when out walking and will happily follow you wherever you go.
Tess is confident and pretty much bomb proof as not much phases this girl! She currently walks on a halti type head collar and is very easy to handle using this method. She does get excited when she meets new dogs, acting like a big puppy. Therefore her new owner will have to work on socializing and teaching her some doggy manners.
Due to her size (Labrador/collie size) and bouncy nature she would be better in a home without young children, although teenage age would be fine if they are confident around larger dogs. Tess needs a firm but fair approach to her training and responds very well when she is given clear expectations of her.
Tess loves people and particularly enjoys a good groom – she will happily stand for 10 minutes whilst you pamper her, but then she needs to have a break and a run around again, only to return for more fuss.
Tess loves food and is on a diet at the moment to make sure she doesn’t get too porky! Being the cheeky girl that she is, she will bark if you do not feed her a treat quick enough, but the staff at the kennels have worked hard to stop this and make her wait politely!
Tess wouldn’t be suitable as a first time dog and does need some work on focusing her mental and physical energy on to something like agility, games etc. However, she is a cracking dog just in need of someone to take the time to get to know her and command her strong personality.
Tess is only approx 14 months old and was seized from her owners by police and handed over to us. We know nothing more than this but she has been with us three months now and we are certain of who she is and that she is basically a big puppy with a heart of gold. So, if you are the active outdoorsy type and want a little bit of a project with potentially huge rewards then come and meet our Tess.
