Tia – 2-3 year old female Whippet Cross

Tia our pint sized, 2 ½ year old Whippet cross. She is now ready to find a home of her own. Tia was originally rehomed by us in the middle of 2015. When Tia first landed with her Sister she seemed totally happy and in fact was the most confident of the two. She was fine with dogs and had no hang ups and was happy out and about in the wide world. Sadly Tia was returned to us in December 2015 and we were told that she was dog aggressive and could not be left at home alone even for an hour even though she had the company of another dog, we were also told there was a problem with her housetraining. We did not beat about the bush and placed Tia into foster with Debbie & Steve both full time workers and their pack. Tia has been totally fine being left from day one in her foster home for 4-5 hours at a time. She has chosen to use the crate herself putting herself in it and now loves it as its her safe place. She has also been spotlessly clean. Even though in her home Tia was said to have destroyed things at Debs she has not chewed up anything.

Tia is currently in foster with 5 other dogs 1 male and 4 bitches and gets on well with them all. She was a little pushy with the girls to begin with and has to be fed separately but other than that there is no issues. As for dog aggression. Tia came back to us petrified of other dogs, when placed in the paddock to play she screamed and ran and cut her nose open. She is not dog aggressive Tia is *dog worried*. I think these photos show exactly what Tia is worried by the world. Tia needs a home experienced with settling in lurchers, working hard to give them to the confidence they need without being to soft or overly assertive. Tias ideal home would be with someone with experience of fear reactive dogs as if she does not feel confident with you she will get upset and vocal on the lead. With Deb now she is confident enough she is safe and rarely if ever barks anymore out and about. Tia also needs a home with other dogs. She would not be suitable to live alongside a bitch on her own BUT with a calmer middle aged male which Tia tends to gravitate towards and a calmer middle aged bitch who was not pushy she would I am sure be fine. Her absolute ideal home though would be with two males one calmer and older for her to cuddle with and a younger male to play with. Tia is great with children but does get worried by younger more noisy children so more sensible 8 upwards would be fine. Tia really would benefit from socialisation classes and it is imperative that any new home is kind, loving, fairly firm at not over coddling her whilst she sorts herself out and settles and learns for herself and has lots of patience to help her through her worries.

Greyhound Gap
Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in our kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homed throughout the UK subject to a suitable home visit being carried out. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Greyhound Gap, we would ask that in the first instance you could take a few moments to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire if you have not already done so: http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/our-dogs/pre-adoption-questionnaire
