Toby is a 7.5 year old English Springer Spaniel. Weighing in at 27kg Toby is a large English Springer Spaniel who almost has some Clumber essence about him. He’s not particularly overweight just a big boy. He’s used to living indoors and will happily follow you around all day, and loves a good bum scratch. However, Toby is not without his issues, he’s a very nervous boy and this comes out in many forms. When you go to do anything new or put a collar / harness / lead on him he does cower submissively and often urinates. He also is bowl possessive at dinner time and will growl at you if asked to wait for his food. He also will bark at any new people, but from our experience no aggression is shown if you leave him to come around. These are issues we believe could be worked on and his fosterers have already made some progress in these areas.
However due to his unpredictable nature we would recommend a home with no children, and someone with previous experience owning dogs. Toby had an ear infection when brought to ourselves which is clearing with medication. As like any Spaniel he will need regular ear cleaning going forward to avoid any reoccurrence. He also has a skin condition which may need further investigation in his new home to discover the root cause. Toby has been swapped onto dry food and had no stomach issues with a change in diet. Toby has been fine living with other dogs and showed no aggression towards them. He has been left in the home with no destructive, noise or separation issues. Toby is excited to go out on walks however we believe he has been used to smaller walks on the lead and off lead walks may need to be built up slowly. He does have recall (if not with the odd spaniel deaf ear) and whilst inquisitive to other people / dogs whilst out no issues shown.
Overall Toby is a lovely dog who needs a child free home ideally with a set routine and someone who has the time and patience to work with him on his nervousness and the issues this present. He is in foster in Nottingham area and he is neutered, chipped, vaccinated, wormed and flead. Adoption is subject to meet and greet, homecheck and adoption donation of £200.
