Valerie is an ex-breeding Bichon, aged approximately 8 years old, who is being fostered in Par, Cornwall and she came to us in a bit of a state. She has had several mammary lumps removed, all of which were benign and has had many teeth taken out too leaving her with around four to eat with. Unlike many ex-breeders Valerie does love people. She can be nervous and will back off if approached by people she doesn’t know. When she trusts you she loves to be cuddled, massaged and thoroughly pampered. She hasn’t met any children yet but, due to her nervy disposition, she would be happier in an adult-only home or one where there are older teens.
Valerie is put off boisterous dogs as they frighten her but she is happy around calmer ones. Her foster mum feels that she would happily live as an only dog as long as she received plenty of attention from her humans. Valerie has not been tested around cats or small furries. It is early days yet in Valerie’s journey and currently she is petrified of going out for walks. She will wear a harness though when visiting the vets but will not tolerate a collar and lead. Valerie is fine in the house and is slowly getting used to being outside in the garden. She hasn’t yet learnt how to play, and may never will, but we will keep showing her what it’s all about. She doesn’t like loud noises i.e. hairdryer and vacuum, but is fine with the washing machine.
Valerie hasn’t been left for very long but when she is left she’s crated. She is happy to settle down for a nap but any time left will have to be built up gradually as, at the moment, this has not been for longer than an hour at a time. Valerie is looking for a quiet household where someone is at home for at least part of the day and who understands that she is a delicate soul. She isn’t an active girl and will sleep for most of the day if allowed. Because of her fear of loud noises her new garden should be far away from road noise and she will get spooked.
If you are looking for an older and calm canine companion then this lady may be perfect for you. Valerie has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is up to date with her flea/worming treatment. Potential adopters are expected to visit Valerie in her foster home in Par, Cornwall.
