Xena – 8 year old female German Shepherd Dog

Xena is an 8 year old German Shepherd girl who is currently in foster care in Macclesfield, Cheshire. She has sadly come from a violent household. After a serious incident Xena’s owner disappeared and left her behind, she was alone in the property but was being fed by the victim’s daughter. More importantly Xena has been suffering with an untreated medical problem since before Christmas; our vet diagnosed it as Anal Furunculosis. She also had Scabies but she’s had stronghold treatment for it and it cleared, she has been on a medicated shampoo for itchy skin.

The owner knew she was in pain but instead of seeking help gave her antibiotics meant for humans. She has been in a lot of pain when toileting. It also meant she was pulling at her fur a lot due to the discomfort and crying a lot when toileting, clearly struggling. The vets cleaned, trimmed and treated the area; she is on a 3 month course of treatment along with anti-biotics which will clear the infection. Update 13th April: Course of treatment has almost finished. She has come on leaps and bounds and the treatment has worked very well so fingers crossed!

We hope that it will not be a recurring problem for the owner, the chances are it won’t be. We really do hope this doesn’t put anyone of this beautiful girl!

Xena has been microchipped, wormed, flead, started vaccinations, but she can’t be spayed yet as she was in season upon arrival. She will only be spayed if the vets say so.

Xena is an absolute darling – she is so friendly and has a beautiful nature. She is good with dogs with proper introductions but can be vocal and pull if she sees some dogs. She is great with children but chases cats and loves being fussed and adores her treats.

We are looking for someone who has had dogs before, she’d suit anyone really, perhaps your retired, work from home or are a mature family. She loves attention! She is good on the lead, she travels ok but can suffer from travel sickness sometimes, she is not toy or food possessive, she is well trained, she loves her walks and she just wants to please. She has the most beautiful coat and such a pretty face, the poor girl has really been through the mill and deserves a chance.
