Akira – 1 year old female Greek Harehound Cross

Akira is a 1 year old female Greek Harehound Cross. Akira is a beautiful dog with a reserved, gentle nature, and she’s looking for a patient adopter with a calm lifestyle to help her adjust to life as a companion. Some dogs don’t thrive in a shelter setting and unfortunately Akira is one of them, but she has so much potential underneath her shy exterior.

Akira was roaming the streets and because she was so afraid of people she was proving impossible to catch. Eventually the locals were so tired of her scavenging that they said unless a shelter could catch her and take her, they would shoot her. Thankfully, using a trap and coaxing her in with food, Akira was caught and came to the shelter where she would be safe for the foreseeable.

It took Akira a little while to settle into the shelter, but once she saw that the other dogs were friendly she soon gravitated towards them. She definitely feels more secure in the presence of other dogs and that in mind we are seeking a home with another docile resident dog who can help to show her that there’s nothing to fear anymore.

Akira is also looking for a semi-rural home in a calm area, a secure garden, and someone who is happy to give her time to adapt. She has such a sweet personality but she’s not got the opportunity to properly blossom in the shelter – that will only be able to happen when she’s in a home and surrounded by love and security. We’re looking for a home without children so as not to overwhelm Akira, and she’s not been tested with cats before.
