Alex – 2 year old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco) cross Brittany Spaniel

Alex is a 2 year old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco) cross Brittany Spaniel. He hasn’t had a chance to socialise in his young life but is learning quickly in his foster home that good behaviour gets rewards of love and kindness (and sometimes treats). He is a fast learner and is already walking to heal, sitting and playing nicely with the resident dog.

When out on walks he meets and greets other dogs well. He does ‘mouth’ at times but is learning not to with a firm no and distraction with his favourite toys. Alex is housetrained. He will need a cat-free home as he finds them far too interesting!

He will also need an adult only home or with teenagers who are experienced with dogs as he can still be nippy and lunge at times when he gets excited, albeit because he wants to play. This is a work in progress but he has come a long way already in a very short space of time.

He could live with a resident, playful dog or be an only dog if he was socialised regularly with other dogs. Alex loves a cuddle and will sneak up on the sofa next to you if allowed.

With lots of positive reinforcement training and consistency Alex will thrive. In the words of his fosterer “he’s a very bright boy who desperately wants to please and be loved”.

Alex enjoys his walks and may benefit from agility or obedience training and may well make a good running partner.
