Bernie is one of our ‘rehab’ dogs who along with Tony is currently in foster with the founder of Storms Legacy. Bernie came to us after travelling to the UK from Romania, She had been in the UK for approx 3 weeks before we were asked if we could help her, Bernie was struggling to adjust to living in a home after spending so long in a shelter in Romania. Bernie arrived with us at the beginning of November, she is an absolutely lovely girl and will soon be moving on to a foster home for the next step.
Bernie is wary of people, she has shown no aggression and is a very sweet girl. She takes time to build trust – but treats usually help with this (Hot dogs or Bonios are her favourite!!). She will happily come to you to sniff etc but will run away. She is happy to allow people to stroke her although she will lie down on the floor for this (this will need to be on going training with her and will need to be on her terms).
Bernie is good with other dogs and really does come out of her shell when other dogs are around. A home with a confident dog(s) would be good for Bernie. Bernie has shown no issues in regards to food/toys/bones towards people or other dogs however when she first arrived she could be a bit grumpy with tony at first – so this will be something that her new owners will need to be prepared for.
We are unsure how she would be with cats. Bernie is very clean in her kennel and will come into the out door part to go to the toilet. She can be a bit distructive in her kennel sometimes, but this is never anything major. Bernie will be fully living in a house before she leaves us for her forever home.
Bernie would be best suited to a quiet home where there are no children. She can live with other dogs. And experience of nervous dogs would be preferred. Bernie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, flee’d and wormed up to date and has her pet passport.
