Betsy is a 4 year old female Terrier Cross. Lovely Betsy and she is lovely maybe bias as she kept me company on a recent trip to Spain and lived with me for the week, she has a sad history was running around terrified on the streets of Spain and quite a few people tried to catch her – she was in a terrible state and was eventually trapped by someone and caught. She came into rescue a few months ago and that was when I met her.
Still extremely scared and timid but you could see so sweet my heart melted and decided to give her a chance of some peace with me so I could get to know the real Betsy. Not sure after a week I know the real Betsy properly but what I do know is what a sweetheart she is. She has obviously had a hard life and a few litters of pups. Somebody has hit her as she closes her eyes especially the beginning of the week if you tried to stroke her as if expecting to be hit, she was also hard just to get in from the garden as she thought you were going to hurt her but throughout all the fear she was showing she never ever growled it was very heartbreaking to watch.
After a few days Betsy started really relaxing and has done ever since she slept and slept, I feel she has been on high alert for a long time and never properly relaxed, watching this little dog blossom in just a very short period is what keeps me doing what I do, she loves her food and I had great pleasure in cooking fresh chicken for her and giving her fresh eggs with her biscuits. After a few days, she started watching where I was and I started to get little kisses, more relaxed about being in the house she started coming and going. She was such a pleasure to live with and adored her new bed, she would not move at night from it and I often left her in the day with no problems in fact I have yet to hear her bark. She did all her business outside and we never had one accident.
Out on walks I had her on a harness, she was nervous if she saw people with other dogs approaching and try to get out of their way, if dogs came too near she would growl not because she is nasty but because is so scared if she was to live with other dogs it would have to be with gentle ones like her.
I have taken quite a few videos on her progress with me and my friend has offered to foster her for a few weeks while we wait for transport to come available. I think Betsy would suit an experienced home who have had rescue dogs before, someone who wants a quiet little dog and has the patience to help her keep progressing, a busy town is never going to suit her, a nice country home with a quiet person or couple watch the videos and see if you feel you could be the right match for her.
So as you can see she made massive progress, she will come back and stay with me in UK, I have 3 dogs and two cats, I have cat tested her and she was not interested.
People reading this will know if she is right for them – I have loved watching her change and bloom and gutted I have to leave her, but its better than kennels and I know how she will find a lovely home because of what I have done – but it’s still very very sad as you cannot explain to them.
Betsy is spayed, vaccinated, chipped and will have her own Pet Passport – if you feel you could be the right home for her please email us.
