(Rehomed) Big Al – 4 year old male Chihuahua

Big Al is a 4 year old male Chihuahua. We would recommend if you do have children then 14 and over would give him a good chance of having an understanding family home, he makes friends but prefers to take his time approaching you and wouldn’t enjoy being a very noisy home. He quite likes dogs, he makes friends quite easily and enjoys the company of similar sized dogs and gentle medium sized dogs. After a cat assessment in a home he demonstrated to us that he would chase cats. They made him quite giddy with excitement. He eats a diet of raw complete food which suits him really well.

He has been healthy during his stay at Glendee. He came to us after being very uncomfortable in his previous home, showing aggression to people. He is beautifully calm and easy for us at Glendee, we feel due to the great understanding and ability to know that he likes to come to you for fuss, he does show some level of anxiety when meeting new people, but given the opportunity he will just create more space between himself and the new person, and as long as he is given time, he will gradually get used to people. I am sure if everyone kept approaching him and picking him up he could well become unhappy about that, but it is really easy to accommodate his needs.

IDEAL HOME: Small dog savvy. Understanding and gentle, hands off approach. He loves going on quiet country walks and will happily trot along at a great pace.

For his humans to be aware of subtle body language and keep him safe. We will ask that any new home commits to on-going training, that will be outlined in any application for him.

This is our current assessment, the assessments are on-going as always, and although we temperament test our dogs in many situations, we cannot know how they be when they arrive in your home, support is given as always be given by the trainer you are matched to.
