Castel is a smallish Terrier cross of around eight to nine years old, fostered near Rugby, Warwickshire. Sadly Castel has spent at least seven of those years in a hellish public shelter in Romania and was completely shut down when he arrived in our care a few months ago. Surviving any length of time in these places means either being one of the toughest and strongest or one of the most invisible. Poor Castel was so well practiced in making himself small and avoiding standing out in any situation that his first few weeks here were spent bringing him out of dark corners and hiding places and putting him on beds and sofas or simply keeping him in sunlight for awhile. His back legs were suffering from severe muscle wastage due to no exercise and he was so visibly hunched and pitiful he was hard to look at without feeling deep sympathy.
However, Castel is learning to keep himself in the limelight now. He snuggles up on the beds with other dogs, asks to accompany us on walks and wags his tail and happy dances at food time. Whilst still not overly affectionate he definitely recognises his foster mum and seeks comfort from her on walks, the trust is growing and the real Castel is burrowing his way out from the deep dark place inside! We cannot tell you how proud of this little chap we are and the courage he has shown to break free from the behaviours that have kept him alive all those years.
Castel needs a patient and understanding adopter that will continue to show him the wonders of life that he was deprived of for so long, it is so important he is pampered beyond his wildest dreams in the time he has left!our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (unless they are too young).
