Chester is a 4 year old male Mastiff Cross. He originally came into our care in November 2017 aged just 4 months old, he quickly found a new home but was returned to us at 8 months old as he was proving to be too big and boisterous for the family.
Chester spent 2 months in kennels before he was adopted again, he spent 2 years with that family but was sadly returned to us once more in May 2020, this time due to an incident that had occurred with the man in the home.
During his time with us, Chester has struggled to form relationships with the staff. He’s a very insecure boy and can feel threatened easily. He can react aggressively if he feels uncomfortable so it’s important that Chester lives with someone who is experienced with this type of behaviour. He has come a long way since he arrived, but still isn’t comfortable being handled too much so will need ongoing support with this.
Chester is a very big boy weighing in at 40kg and therefore he can be strong on the lead, but he has good manners and is working on slowing down and responding to his walker.
If Chester feels overwhelmed during his walks he can take his frustration out by ragging the lead, therefore he will need an experienced and confident handler.
Chester is a playful boy with members of staff who he knows and is very clever and eager to learn. We strongly believe that he has a lot of potential and will really excel with the right owner.
Chester will need a quiet home with no children or other animals, and ideally with people who are home most of the time to help him settle and feel comfortable. As Chester takes a while to trust people, potential adopters will need to come and visit him often to build a relationship with him, therefore they must live locally.
