Chicago is a 2 year old female Tibetan Terrier cross Lurcher . He is a very pretty, slightly shy girl who has not had the best start in life nor much exposure to things, however, remains incredibly sweet natured and keen to learn. Chicago has come from an environment with multiple dogs and has never lived as part of a normal home; because of this she will require housetraining (however she is very clean overnight in her kennel). Potential adopters will need to be extra considerate with allowing Chicago time to adjust and become accustomed to every day life events and happenings. She will not be familiar with household noises or the hustle and bustle of everyday life but observations so far have shown that she adjusts well to change as she has accepted things here very well, albeit at a slower pace than dogs that have come from traditional homes previously.
Chicago is initially quite shy with strangers and can feel the need to back off and bark at them. It doesn’t take her long to warm up though and once she knows you she is incredibly affectionate. Potential adopters will need to take things at her pace and give her the time and patience to approach them. Once she knows you she is a complete live wire and covers you in kisses. Chicago is good with dogs and shares her suite with a friend to keep her company, she also spends her social and free play time with a number of other dogs. She could live happily with other dogs and would do well with a confident dog to learn from. Chicago has never had any kind of coat maintenance so needs a calm understanding owner to teach her about brushing, nail clipping, bathing etc. She generally does accept handling and grooming very well but is very playful and eager to dance about. Her coat will require grooming so potential adopters need to be aware of this.
Please note these photos are prior to being groomed, when Chicago first arrived and she will have a full groom prior to adoption and the mats removed. Chicago has also never been walked and is not accustom yet to wearing a harness or walking in it. We have begun training her and overall she’s doing really well with it but new adopters need to be aware it could be sometime before she is able to participate on walks like a normal dog on the lead. We feel it would also require a great deal of training before she’s able to be successfully let off the lead. Care will need to be taken teaching her recall with a long line etc. We would recommend starting lead walking in a garden or secure area and building from there.
Chicago absolutely adores sleeping in a tight little ball and laying in enclosed, dark spaces. We feel that a crate that remains opened, that can be made into her own safe space would highly benefit her well-being and sense of calm. A fluffy bed with a blanket draped over the cage might be a wonderful space for her to enjoy cosy naps. We don’t feel this is incredibly necessary but she seems to enjoy being quite compact when she sleeps. It would surprise you how small this beansprout can make herself! Chicago is quite vocal and likes the sound of her own voice; she certainly makes it known when someone is there and at meal times. Due to how big and bouncy she is we cannot accept applications from families with resident children under 10 years of age. We do not feel a home with young children would be beneficial to her at this point.
Chicago is essentially a complete blank canvas. She has a beautiful nature, is very smart and is keen to learn but needs a calm, understanding and patient owner to work with her and teach her the ways of a home. She is incredibly affectionate once she gets to know you and it is high time for her to learn how to be a dog and be loved for the wonderful individual tha she is. She requires basic training, housebreaking, lead training and socialising. She would benefit highly from puppy/beginner training classes.
Chicago is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. She will also be subject to a home check and adoption donation.
