Cobalt is a 3 year old male Chihuahua. Cobalt was relinquished into our care alongside his sister (Rosemary) and 2 sons (Tuna & Spirit.) They came from a home that started with 2 un neutered chihuahuas who naturally bred out of control and became too much for the single owner to cope with. As a result Cobalt is incredibly undersocialised. Having never been out of the house prior to coming into rescue, he is not lead trained nor has any form of recall. His new adopters will need to make sure they are prepared to start this training in a garden or secure area with treats and positive reinforcement taking things slowly at his pace. He is incredibly affectionate in the home but is nervous of new people having not had many visitors in his previous home. He may take a while to come to new people and new adopters will need to be aware of this.
Although he likes being stroked he is not used to being picked up either as his previous owner believed you should never pick up chihuahua, this doesn’t manifest in anything aggressive but he goes quite rigid and doesn’t understand what is happening. Again it’s coming on slowly in foster but is still a work in progress. Cobalt is quite a bright vibrant little chap but has never really had the right start with key socializing; he is good with dogs and scared of cats but could live with a dog savvy one. He won’t chase them but does bark at them. With a bit of work and learning about the big wide world he will be quite a rewarding dog. He is very eager to learn. He is crate trained and non destructive in the home, he is getting there slowly with his housebreaking. He is keen to go out in the garden in the morning and after meals but sometimes requires another dog to follow in as he wasn’t allowed outside in his previous home either so doesn’t really understand coming in and out.
If he goes to a dog free home his new owner may need to be aware that they will have to retrieve him from the garden until he learns his way around. Cobalt is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a homecheck and adoption donation. He will also come with 4 weeks free insurance and a voucher for a box of free food.
