Emmie is a 12 month old female Podenco Andaluz being fostered in Gloucestershire she is only small weights approx 8 kilos. Emmie is still a baby she has recently joined the Starfish family after finding herself homeless in Spain.
She is in foster with another Podenco boy and has settled well into home life and taking all new experiences in her stride she especially like most Sighthounds loves the sofa. She is very bright and already learnt a few commands, house training is going well and settles well in her crate at night and when left for short periods.
Everyone who meets this little dog loves her, she is full of character and full of life. She adores other dogs, people, everyone she meets in fact and is extremely affectionate. Emmie is very outgoing and loves to play too much so for the resident Podenco who likes a much slower pace of life and finds her too much, he is an older chap and so laid back he is horizontal, he will play but then wants to have a snooze which Emmie does not seem to get.
It does not help that the foster home only has a small garden so Emmie is not letting of as much stream as we would like her too and her recall is how we can say work in progress, like most Sighthounds she is very easily distracted and cannot be trusted. She gets regular trips to an enclosed field which she enjoys but does spend a lot of the time hunting for rabbits in the hedgerow.
Her favourite game with her foster brother is digging for mice in the garden they both adore doing this but are apparently not very good at it, as they do it the mice run the other way.
Her foster mummy has grown very fond of this little dog but knows she is not the right home for Emmie, she feels either a younger dog for her to play with or an older one that will tell her off when they have had enough as Dylan is not the type to do this.
A large garden for her to burn off stream and a home who understands the needs of Sighthounds as its important she is kept safe. She has a lovely nature and character but is typical adolescent so full of it and so she should be – so an active home for Emmie, she would do well in a family with lots going on, a running partner would be good for her – training classes would be beneficial.
Emmie is spayed, vaccinated and has a Pet Passport – if you feel you could be the right home for our lovely girl please email the rescue for the questionnaire in the first instance.
