Eugenita is a 9-10 year old female Griffon Nivernais. She is a beautiful, medium-sized, senior dog. with a low-shedding, tan and brown, soft coat and adorable long eyebrows and beard. She has a medium level of energy, which makes us all think she might be younger than her DOB on her pet passport, which was an estimation as she was found abandoned and when she was already an adult.
She is very sociable with people and dogs, very calm and well-behaved at home and very easy to handle. She is a gentle, affectionate dog that would will probably need a few months to feel completely comfortable at her new home, but that will give so much love in return.
She had spent many years, most of her life, at a big pound. She was living in fear, balled up in a corner, too terrified to even go out for walks with volunteers. Poor Eugenita was finally rescued and placed into a foster home on the 3rd of January 2021 and we expected it would take her months to settle in, but we were all pleasantly surprised by her sudden improvement.
She is now still a bit shy and wary with strangers, but she has completely changed her attitude and she is not a fearful dog anymore. It’s like she was just waiting for her chance! We want a friend for her to give her continued confidence in her new home. A rural location would be good. She is a calm dog, very sociable and affectionate.
Foster Report: Eugenita is the easiest dog we have ever fostered. She went from being very scared to opening up to us very quickly, much faster than we expected. She still needs some time with new people, she is still shy, but she is enjoying life to the fullest now. She is very loving; she loves cuddles and belly rubs.
She is great at home, she can be left alone for short periods and doesn’t get nervous, doesn’t bark either. She is house-trained too. Her coat is not wirehaired as it might appear, but very smooth, and she barely sheds. She is also very intelligent. Eugenita is eager to go outdoors, and walks very well on the lead, doesn’t pull. She hasn’t been let off lead yet, but when we’ve let her off in an enclosed place, her recall was good. She is obedient in general.
Her only “issue” is that she is still scared of loud noises, and her future family needs to be aware that a sudden loud noise could spook her and make her bolt. However, when she has got scared with us it hasn’t been too hard to calm her down with lots of cuddles. We think a less built up area would suit her.
