Floki is a 1 year old male German Shepherd Cross. He is a loyal, intelligent lad who is quick and eager to learn. Sadly, he was not socialised enough at an early age, nor was he given appropriate boundaries, so although he adored his adoptive family, he is suspicious of new people and takes a while to learn to trust them.
He is also very nervous in new situations, particularly on a walk, when he is scared by traffic and noise, people and other dogs. He is food motivated so this can be used to distract him and help create a positive experience. Quieter places are recommended when he is initially being walked, as he responds well to being able to work off his energy.
We are looking for a rural or semi rural home, preferably with a garden for Floki to relax in, with experienced adopters who have the time to build trust with him and introduce him to new situations gradually. We believe he will blossom in the right home, and in time would benefit from training classes and possibly agility or fly ball.
Although he has lived with other dogs and a cat quite happily, the kennel staff believe he will be happy as an only dog. When he is not feeling distressed, Floki is happy to socialise and play with other dogs. Because Floki takes time to trust, we are looking for an adult only home.
Potential adopters would need to commit to meeting him at the kennels a few times before taking him home. He is not yet neutered and he will need to be neutered at the appropriate time. This will be the responsibility of the adopter, so this cost needs to be borne in mind.
