Florence is a 4 year old female Shar Pei cross of medium to size, fostered in Gorleston-on-sea, Norfolk. She was a sad looking girl who was so beaten down by life that we originally thought she was much older than her years. She was taken to the Botosani public shelter in Romania a few months ago and we quickly agreed to take her as she didn’t look like she’d last long in that environment. We met her when we visited the shelter in early Match and were even more troubled by her condition.
We took her to the vets for blood tests as she was so thin and looked so poorly but all cane back clear and her sorry state was down purely to a deep set depression. Despite her skeletal frame she would not eat and it took all our powers of persuasion and all kinds of foods to eventually tempt her appetite. Of course then we had to come home, and then lock down hit and we were concerned she would never make it safely here. Last weekend though she finally made it safely off the van and here is what her UK foster has to say about her.
Florence arrived recently looking sad, filthy and skinny with wounds from dog attacks. She was exhausted by her condition, travelling and from what she had endured. After a bath and a good feed the light returned to her eyes a little and has continued to do so in the last few days. She doesn’t yet seek attention but is happy to be touched.
Florence has a lovely calm nature and seems to get on with everyone both human and canine, young and old. She is clean and quiet in the house and will avoid dogs when they get noisy. She does resist the lead going on at the moment and will lie down in protest when it’s walk time, but once out she really enjoys her walks. She walks well on the lead although further training will be needed. Once fully recovered, I think Florence will be quite lively, although not overly so and is beginning to show herself as fun and entertaining.
Florence is looking for a quieter home and could live with or without another dog. She would like long interesting walks and play opportunities. She is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Home check and a £270 adoption does apply.
