This lovely dog came into our care nearly a month ago – his crime was a bad stomach upset caused by a weird diet. He was actually taken to the Vet to be put down.

We know before this owner he was with another owner who kept him shut in a crate most of the time. That is the shortened version. But it was a very rubbish and unloved past.

So this little shut-down boy joined us – he seemed very calm but we now know he was probably not feeling that well on the diet he had been on and was shut down from the way he made to feel and treated.

When he first arrived

His recall out on walks loving life

So fast forward and we have a very different dog – he has the most amazing temperament with people, visiting grandchildren and other dogs, he has even met cats and a house rabbit with no problems.

He did not travel very well to begin with and was very anxious but now he travels well in a crate. He has an amazing recall. His house training is fine now and his stomach we have no problems with at all it was just some crazy diet he was being fed.

So that is basically all the positives of Freddie a lovely dog with no issues temperament-wise – everyone who meets him loves him.

Day at the beach with the grandchildren and family

This is the evening after a busy day being a young dog he adores cuddles and love

The negative is that his past has left him very anxious if left alone – he will basically bark, he has learnt to be in the house if you are upstairs or out in the garden and he is unable to join you, he also sleeps downstairs with the other dogs at night.

But if you leave him in the house alone, he will get upset, and anxious and bark, he does not destroy anything but this is something that will need work with people who are experienced with this behaviour and who understand that in time as he feels more secure and confident this will hopefully stop.

He is not that dog that you can get a dog walker in for, take him to different places, and different people to look after him, his next home needs to be very stable, with no changes, and everything steady and predictable for him.

The puppy side of Fred has come out so he is a very happy, bouncy, high-energy ball of fun, he really is loving life and his next home needs to be a happy active home that enjoys a happy bouncy dog.

He is a very bright and quick learner, he obviously before he came to us has had no training but has learnt very fast.

Whoever has him needs to take him dog training to try and make up for all the lost time he would really benefit from it, he has been to the pub and has all the makings of a good pub/cafe dog bless him.

Pub dog

We think he could live with cats, even a house rabbit but would do another test to make sure, living with 5 other dogs, can be a bit over the top sometimes with them and we think he would do better with an older bitch who would put him in his place if he got too much.

He is a typical Cockapoo and can get a bit bossy.

Lovely dog with, amazing potential obsolete crap start to life which he is overcoming – we cannot afford to get it wrong with him as he would be devasted – so only available to experienced rescue people.

Freddie has been neutered, fully vaccinated, chipped, wormed and fleaed please email us if you think you are the right home for him after reading this.

Starfish Dog Rescue is a small Rescue helping UK dogs established since 2011.

The dogs that find their way to us are those in need of support in a small home-based rescue where the dogs are fostered as our own in our homes, the old, the young and more vulnerable that would not do well with a kennel-based rescue.

We work closely with the dogs assessing them so we know them so well we can give potential owners a complete picture of the dogs and what they need in the form of a forever home, we home our dogs as if they are our own and have a 99.9% success rate in matching dogs and people up we will never compromise so please do not be offended when we say no which is quite often our rescue is about the dogs first and their needs we home them knowing if they could speak it's about their perfect match.

We are a small team of local volunteers who have worked together closely for many years now many of us have worked for larger organisation where sometimes people lose sight of the most important factors and that is the dogs.

All our dogs are neutered, vaccinated, chipped, wormed/fleaed to us that is just the basics, dogs will get everything they need to make sure they lead a healthy happy life before they leave us, if they need surgery for heart problems, treatment for ear infections, dentals for infected teeth to name a few they will get it - we often organise fund raisers to help pay their vet fees from our wonderful supporters.

Each dog is a special precious soul and will always be the centre of what Starfish is - a Rescue that is all about the dogs.
