Guadiamar is a 1 year old Podenco (Ibizian Hound). Guadiamar’s mother, Betsy was found emaciated and desperate for help, nursing her 5 puppies in a drain next to the River Guadalquivir. We think that she could have been a hunting dog who’d escaped, or who had been dumped, and has found herself alone. The puppies were born around the end of March 2011. Luckily, a Spanish rescue in Seville who we work closely with, was there to help save the dogs from drowning. Betsy is now fit and healthy, and along with the puppies; Huéznar, Genil, Bembézar, Viar and Guadiamar.
Guadiamar is cheeky girl who just loves people. She loves other dogs to play with too. She is a typical young Podenco, playful and loving. She loves to be made a fuss of and really deserves a second chance at a good life. She walks well on the lead, and really enjoys her walks and a good run especially if she has another dog to run with, she is a typical hound who also loves her home comforts. Guadiamar could do with some basic training to stop her jumping up and work with her recall, being a podenco she will need a secure garden. Apart from that she is a really good girl and she is great with other dogs.
Podencos are very common dogs out in Spain, commonly used for hunting, and treated terribly. However they make wonderful pets, and are loving, sweet natured and full of personality. They love their home comforts and of-course also enjoy there runs. However anyone who adopts a podenco must be aware that they do not have good recall and it is very hard to train them off the lead, sight-hound experience is preferable. This gorgeous girl has so much to give the right home! She is a wonderful girl and we cant wait to see her flourish in her own home! She is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and passported.
This beautiful girl is fostered in Mid-Wales. If you think you can offer Guadiamar her forever home please do fill out our adoption form online: www.sos-animals-org.uk
