Holly is an 8-9 year old female English Springer Spaniel. She is a very sweet and gentle dog but she has acute STRANGER DANGER imprinted in her mind. It is very noticeable and she must be re homed to someone experienced, who has the time, patience and understanding to accommodate her. Once she “believes” in you she is very faithful and will completely bond to you – BUT will be fearful of other people.
She may never learn to fully accept strangers, I have been trying to alleviate her fear by introducing her to a select few visitors. She is never forced as this could lead to fear biting. Depending upon her reaction, some have been able to give her treats, avoiding eye contact and generally trying to ignore her.
This build up process could take weeks, months or even longer. The goal has been that with consistent application, she may slowly begin to associate strangers with rewards. She is good with Dogs and happy to run amongst them, has shown no aggression at all to them. Unlike, Chickens and such – she will kill, so you would need to take this into consideration when walking her.
She is lovely company, she likes a cuddle and appears to be smiling all the time. She will retrieve and bring balls etc to you. She shows little or no interest in water. She is house trained, doesn’t bark, and eats very slowly – snacks really. She is “ok” in a car – but is not familiar with car journeys from what I understand. With her nervous behaviour it would be wise for her to travel in the boot – in a crate – so there is no opportunity for her to bolt.
She will need to be kenneled at her new home – maybe not forever but definitely to start with as she will not be comfortable in new surroundings. If it were to be permanent home for her it would need to be insulated and heated through the winter months.
Holly is not neutered and will be rehomed with a contract to do so if she ever reaches the stage that it is feasible and not with entire males. She is chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee.
