Jackson – 10 year old male Jack Russell Terrier

Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre Liverpool September 11, 2020

Jackson is a 10 year old male Jack Russell Terrier. He came into our care after his owner sadly passed away and the lady in the home was struggling to cope with him on her own.

Jackson first arrived with us in July and has been undergoing assessment, he is still adjusting to life at the rescue and is not quite ready to be rehomed but we do feel that we can start accepting applications for him.

When Jackson arrived with us he was a very confused and anxious boy, he did not cope well at all in the kennels and started to become snappy towards the staff.

We have since moved Jackson into a quiet room and we are starting to see an improvement in his behaviour. Whilst we are still working on Jackson’s relationship with the staff he has bonded extremely well with one member of staff who he adores!

Jackson is very affectionate and clingy with this person, it is clear that he is quite an insecure dog who is always looking for reassurance.

It appears that Jackson has some separation anxiety, he does not like to be locked away on his own and will bark and cry although he does not seem to be destructive.

Jackson has been through a lot since he arrived with us, he had to accept coming into the kennel environment, interacting with lots of different people and also seeing our vet. It was all too much for Jackson and it was clear to see that he wasn’t coping.

Jackson will need an experienced owner, someone who has dealt with nervous/anxious dogs before. He absolutely needs a soft and gentle approach with someone patient and we feel he would be best suited to living with one person in whom he can form a strong bond with. He cannot live with children and cannot be placed in a home where there are any children visiting. He will need a home with someone around for most/all of the day and a quiet environment is crucial with very little commotion or visitors.

Jackson’s new owner will need to spend a period of time building a relationship with him here at the rescue, this will then progress into a slow introduction into the home so please do bare your location in mind should you wish to enquire about him.

At the moment Jackson has not had many interactions with other dogs but we do feel that he will need to be the only pet in the home. He does not like cats or small animals.
