Jasper is a 6 year old male English Springer Spaniel. He is a large built English Springer Spaniel. He is stunning in appearance and shows good response to basic commands. He can be strong initially on a lead, but has perfect understanding of “heel” – he just needs to slow down a little and can walk very nicely. He has had time invested in him and is trained, attended classes in the past (sit, down, stay, paw, wait, heel. Had been trained to the whistle. He has done some agility also.
Absolutely LOVES water – and would quite happily swim around, splash and play all day given the chance. He is good with all dogs that he has met, both females and males. He shows no aggression or animosity towards them. He is a little grumpy/growly when been fed. Although can take treats very gently.
However, Jasper has very acute guarding issues. My personal experience is just with location although I have been told he can equally guard toys etc. There are different levels of resource guarding in dogs, ranging from fairly harmless to severe aggression – Jasper shows the signs of severe. And, for these reasons we have been kennel training him. Although to be fair, he has come to realise that my approach is a positive experience, nothing to be wary of and an indicator that good things are about to happen.
He will need to be housed in an insulated, heated kennel in his new home for your safety and his also. Maybe in time, he could be introduced to living within a family house, foremost he needs to exercise his brain and body, I really believe with enough stimulation his negative ways will ease.
He is a young dog, with a zest for life and fun outdoor adventures and would suit an active new home. He is – despite the guarding – a very nice dog to have. He is enthusiastic and attentive.
Jasper is neutered chipped vaccinated wormed and flead and adoption is subject to meet and greet homecheck and adoption fee.
