Jessie is a gorgeous 16 year old female Jack Russell Terrier Cross who is in an Oldies Club foster home in Cardiff. She took about a month to settle in foster care and there was quite a lot of crying and howling to begin with; she must have been missing her beloved owner terribly.
The crying and howling has completely stopped now, but Jessie is still quite clingy. She is being given half a calming tablet supplement once a day to help support her.
Jessie can now be left up to 4 hours, but at the beginning in her new home it will need to be less than this, until she has been allowed time to settle in. Jessie might cope with living with a part-time worker, but she would be happiest with someone who is mainly at home.
Jessie gets on fine with dogs she meets, but she will tell them off if they are in her face. She could maybe live with a quiet dog who will leave her be. We were told that Jessie hasn’t lived with cats and she hasn’t met any cats in foster, so we will be rehoming her to a cat-free home.
Jessie was very good when she met her foster carer’s nephews, but with being an older lady she would prefer a quiet life. Visiting children rather than resident ones would therefore be preferable, but she may be OK to live with older, calm and respectful children.
Jessie is very active for her age, loves walks, and gets very excited when she sees her lead. She needs at least two walks per day of about 30 minutes each walk. She could manage a walk of up to an hour though.
She won’t toilet on hard surfaces so her new home must have a garden with a grassed area. He loves sleeping, sunbathing, having belly rubs, and taking her biscuits from the kitchen and eating them on the rug. She loves eating – when she smells food she does a meerkat impression.
A home with someone who is around most of the day and will allow her to sleep on the bed at night. You will need to be happy to be followed around the house as Jessie is a loyal little flower who wants to be with you.
