We suspect they may not have been willing, or able, to cover his veterinary bills as the eye needed to be removed.

Sadly, they were disinterested in taking Johnny back and left him at the pound. He’s now had his eye operation and is recovering well, so we’re keen to find a forever family who won’t give up on him this time.

Johnny weighs 10kg. He measures 60cm to the top of his head and looks like he might be a mixture of a hound and a terrier.

Johnny boasts an adorable curly tail, but handsome black and tan hound markings (cute eyebrows included!) and floppy beagle ears.

Despite his initial confusion at arriving in the pound with his family, and then them leaving without him.

Johnny has adapted well to becoming a pound resident and is a confident, happy-go-lucky soul who asks for very little and just longs to be around people. Thankfully his abandonment hasn’t fractured his trust.

Johnny gets along well with other dogs in various situations. He shares nicely with them, he doesn’t show any signs of resource guarding, he can be tied next to various other dogs whilst the kennels are being cleaned and he walks well with other dogs on group walks too.

Johnny hasn’t shown any hostility towards any of the other pound residents since he arrived. That said, he is also more than confident enough to be home as the only dog.

Johnny doesn’t need other dogs for reassurance or companionship and would be quite content as the only resident dog in the household.

We also know that his former family had no other pets. Johnny has previously lived with children and we feel that he would be happy in a home with kids aged 5+. He’s very people-oriented and would slot into a family home with ease.

It’s what he’s known and it’s evident that’s also what he wants again. He’s doing well in the pound but he cries when the volunteers leave – we just know he would love to go home with any of them given the chance.

Johnny is more or less suitable to live anywhere but would benefit from a home with direct access to a secure garden where possible. He is not cat friendly, and therefore cannot live with feline friends.

Johnny would prefer someone who is home regularly so he doesn’t have to spend long periods on his own, and he would enjoy some basic training too.

He’s a smart little guy and this would help to build a trusting bond between him and his new adopter. Johnny is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he has a forever home to go to.
