King – 8 year old male Scottish Terrier

Hello everyone, my name is King, 8 year old male Scottish Terrier. I am a lovely, friendly boy but in true Scottie-fashion, I can be a bit of a stubborn arse. Therefore, if I want to do something, I am going to do it! An ideal candidate will have breed-experience (or Terrier-experience at the very least).

I was surrendered to SEDR as I was getting too stressed out in my former home by a neighbour’s dog (large breed). He attacked me and I was just so distressed with him living so close to me after the incident; if I heard him in the garden or going past the house, I would get terribly upset.

Therefore, it was decided that it would be best to find me a new home where there is not something from my past to distress me. I will need a new home with no reactive, neighbouring dogs (calm, neighbouring dogs will be fine though).

Due to my bad experiences, I have been reactive during on-lead walks with my former owner. At the rescue centre, I have been dog-tested with mainly small breeds and my friends say that I have demonstrated some fantastic body language. However, I need to be the only dog in the home, allowing any potential owner to continue working on my socialisation skills with other dogs outside of the home first.

Whilst I have never bitten in the home, I do not like being told what to do so I need an experienced owner who understands how to manage these situations calmly. I will bark at visitors coming into the home but once given a treat, I will calm down. Therefore, with all these things considered (and because I have not lived with children previously), I would prefer to live in an adult-only home with no visitors under 12 years old.

Unfortunately, I cannot live with cats as I hate them with a passion! I am fine to be left on my own for a few hours and like to sleep in a crate with the door left open. I am fully house-trained, not destructive in the home and am a delightful traveller!! I have not shown any signs of resource guarding whilst I have been staying at SEDR.

I have no medical issues. I have been muzzled at the vets/groomers previously for being a bit of a mumbly grumbly. However, my friends at SEDR have bathed me successfully without the need for a muzzle (and I was a perfect gent!!).

I really am a delightful boy and once I know and trust you, I will show you just how sweet and friendly I am! However, you have to remember that sometimes, a Scottie has got to do what a Scottie’s got to do!!
