Kira is a 13 month old Greyhound female who has come to us from a puppy shed. She is currently in a foster in Wiltshire but she has poor muscle tone due to lack of exercise and has little experience of the outside world. Despite this she is a gentle, loving girl. Her coat is very brown due to “kennel coat” but she will soon be gleaming like only a black greyhound can gleam.
Kira went out for her first proper walk today and found the world to be a slightly scary but very interesting place. She has already charmed the people she met on her walk with her gentle and friendly nature. She is going to make a loyal and loving companion for some lucky person. Kira is currently in foster waiting for her forever home.
Update from Kira’s foster family: Kira is really blossoming into a cheeky, loving little girl. She was quite stiff when she arrived, through lack of exercise so it is a real pleasure to see her trotting up and down the garden. She is mixing really well with our three dogs so we’re sure she would thrive as a pack member in her forever home. Our Alfie follows her around like a lost lamb and she is very tolerant when he cuddles up and leans his head on her.
Kira is enjoying her walks now and has learnt how to mooch. Her house training is coming on really well. She didn’t have a clue when she was first rescued from the shed. Now she will tell us if she needs to go out during the night and looks at the door if she needs to go out during the day. She is a little superstar!
Kira has also had her first bath – you don’t want to know the colour of the water we rinsed out. She is starting to show a shiny black coat through the dead, brown kennel fluff and every time we brush her we send drifts of fur floating around the garden. We have found many scars on her poor body. With so many puppies crammed in to one shed, she must have been attacked several times but this hasn’t affected her temperament at all. She is happy, affectionate, tolerant and gentle. Someone out there is going to have a gem of a dog in Kira.
