This is Layla a 9 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier. When Layla came here a few months ago from kennels she was a very stressed and anxious dog. As time has gone on it has become apparent that she is a loyal and loving dog who was distraught at losing her family after 9 years.
Slowly but surely she has settled down and rebuilt her trust which in itself makes it important for her to find a new permanent home as soon as possible to lessen the stress of moving on as she is building a strong attachment to us here. Layla is friendly and affectionate – a bit boisterous when excited but soon calms down and is docile and well behaved indoors. She is house trained and sociable when out for walks. Here she is living with other dogs but ideally needs to be an only pet as she does not like to share food and toys. She will probably like some canine friends but not ones who live in her household. She cannot live with cats as she is inclined to chase them whenever she gets the chance.
Anyone who is able to give Layla the secure home she urgently needs must be prepared to work on her separation anxieties and take things slowly. At first she panicked ìf left in a different room but with gradual build up and rewarding calm behaviour she now can be left for short periods. A new owner will need to start from scratch as changing home again will cause her fears to recur for a while. Ideally suited perhaps to a recently retired couple so she forms a bond with both of you. She loves children so visiting grandchildren would get a warm welcome (supervised, of course).
