Mabel is a 5 year old female Foxhound cross Beagle. She is a rescue from the dog meat trade in China. During the pandemic the cost of bringing a dog from China to the UK was around £3000. We are so pleased to say this has now reduced to £1600.
We know this sum is still prohibitive in some cases, but we hope it gives these dogs more of a chance to leave the shelter as many of them have been there for over two years. We don’t seem to get hound rescues in China very often but if you’ve seen the amount we rehome from Cyprus you’ll probably realise that we LOVE a hound.
Mabel was rescued from a meat truck in March 2021 and she was the only adult dog on the truck, everyone else was a pup. Mabel is around four years old and has a gorgeous nature. She is very friendly, gentle, trusting and loyal, everything you could hope for in a companion dog.
We’ll never know her story before she was saved from that meat truck but we hope she’s been treated kindly in the past. We think that she is a Foxhound/Beagle type mix. Mabel is a very happy, healthy dog and socialises so well with everyone at the safehouse regardless of age or size.
She is an easygoing girl who loves the company of people and would love a home in a semi-rural setting with a garden to sniff about in. Being a hound, she will thrive in an active home with an outdoorsy family who can give her lots of opportunities to follow her nose on long walks. She can also happily live alongside other dogs, but is confident enough to be adopted as the only dog in the household too.
Mabel hasn’t been tested with children but we’re confident based on her nature that she would make an ideal dog for a young family – she is so gentle and keen to make friends. She’s not been tested with cats and due to her breed mix we’re not looking for a home with felines! If you think you can offer Mabel the semi-rural home she’s looking for please get in touch.
