Mae is a 2 year old, female Red Setter and Labrador cross, who came to The Mayhew as a stray. She knows basic commands and is very intelligent and eager to learn and this, coupled with the fact that she is very responsive to treats, will make her easy and delightful to train.

We do not know whether she is toilet-trained or how she copes being left alone. This inquisitive and sweet-natured dog is playful with other dogs but does not seem to have ever known the joy of toys. She is still very nervous around strangers and her new guardians will need to take her to training classes to help build her confidence, they will need to devote a great deal of attention to socialising her with new environments and new people on a daily basis.
We would be happy to rehome Mae with a family where there are teenagers, but no younger children as she really needs a quiet home with an owner who is home most of the time and has plenty of time to devote to her. It would be great to find her a home with a sociable, confident existing dog who can show her the doggy ropes. She would happily live with cats. Her new guardians will be taking on a thirteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
Beautiful Mae will make a loyal and affectionate companion.
