Nala is around 4 year old female Hound Cross.

Two years ago, Nala found herself abandoned in the shelter by her former owner. She arrived as a withdrawn, subdued shell of a dog and her confidence was clearly knocked by the confusion of being left behind by who she thought was her forever family.

Sadly, not one person has since applied to adopt Nala and she’s now spent half of her life in the shelter.

Gradually, Nala’s confidence returned and her personality started to shine through. While initially reserved and shy upon her arrival at the shelter, Nala has blossomed into a more sociable and outgoing girl, thanks to the love and care of shelter staff and volunteers.

She may have been a little broken at the beginning, but she’s definitely shown us how resilient she can be. She’s essentially become part of the furniture at the shelter now and they all love her.

Nala is now four years old, and is a medium-sized bundle of energy, always eager for walks and outdoor adventures. Whether it’s exploring nature trails or running through the grass in wide-open spaces, she thrives outside.

She is definitely looking for a home with a more active lifestyle with a family who enjoy long walks and would be looking to bring a dog along with them. She would also prefer a home with direct access to a secure garden.

Being a hound, it comes as no surprise that Nala loves to follow her nose when out on walks, and she also loves to try her hand at catching birds. She would not be suitable for a home with small furries or cats unfortunately, as her instinctive prey drive would require a lot of management.

With other dogs however, Nala is great. She shares her kennel with an enormous dog at the shelter and gets on with him really well! She could definitely be homed alongside a resident dog, but could live by herself too as she doesn’t rely on canine company.

Nala’s manners on the lead are great and she walks really nicely after her initial excitement has subsided. She loves going out with the other dogs and walks really well beside them, rarely pulling, but often stopping for a good sniff of her surroundings – typical hound behaviour! She is also comfortable around passing cars, and even bicycles.

Nala’s transformation from timid soul she was when she arrived to a social butterfly she is now is a testament to her resilience and capacity for love. She has formed trusting relationships with plenty of volunteers, including children, and is always happy to greet new and unfamiliar faces visiting the shelter.

We would love for her to finally get the new beginning she deserves and see her off on her way to her forever home.

Nala is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
